It was meant to be a fun night with friends. It’s been revealed that Lea Michele was having a ‘girls’ night’ after returning home from Mexico, when she received the devastating news that her partner, Cory Monteith, had passed away.
A source close to the Glee actress has revealed the horrific night the 26-year-old found out her lover had died of a heroin and alcoholic overdose in Canada on July 13. People revealed the actress was ‘was at home and in a great mood, enjoying a girls’ night in’ when another friend hastily called her with the terrible news her boyfriend had died.
A friend told the magazine: ‘Lea started freaking out, she was distraught.
‘No one knew what to say. It was horrible. She couldn’t believe it.’A distraught and screaming Lea was quickly taken to a close friend’s home so she did not have to face being photographed or be alone.
The source said: ‘She needed to get out of her house, it was extremely emotional. So she left and stayed in the home of her friend.’
Lea has been largely grieving by herself but joined Cory’s family at a private cremation in Vancouver last week to say goodbye to her 31-year-old beau.
Speaking to In Touch, Cory’s first cousin Richard Monteith revealed the 31-year-old actor’s ashes will most likely be scattered in the three cities that meant the most to him.
Richard said: ‘I think Cory’s mom wants to spread some of the ashes in the different places he loved.
‘I think she wanted to cremate him so they could spread his ashes in Los Angeles, Vancouver, and Victoria and keep a little bit for the family.’
Cory grew up between Victoria and Vancouver, both in British Columbia.
Los Angeles, California, is of course where he found fame and met love Lea.
The Glee star has yet to speak in public however, her spokesperson has released a statement on her behalf.
Her spokesperson said at the time: ‘Lea is deeply grateful for all the love and support she’s received from family, friends, and fans.
‘(Lea and Cory’s family) are supporting each other as they endure this profound loss together. We continue to ask the media to respect the privacy of Lea and Cory’s family.’
